I spent a fair fraction of the day waiting for the elevator.
I live on the 14th floor. Today, 2.5 of the 3 elevators in the building were broken. #1 and #3 were simply non-functional, and #2 was semi-working. At one point I got sufficiently fed up waiting for it that I took the stairs.
It took most of the day for some inquisitive resident to work out the failure pattern: at every station other than the 1st floor, the upward arrow was ignored, but the downward arrow was respected. To go up, I had to press the down button, and possibly take a ride to the lobby and back.
Armed with that knowledge, it wasn’t so bad after all.
