I got this pair of glasses at some point back in college, so they’re at least 7 years old. Yesterday, not without warning, the bridge finally unstuck itself from the left lens rim, and I found myself with two halves that did not exactly make a whole.
Naturally, I wandered down half-blind to my nearest office supply store, acquired some superglue, and stuck them back together. So far, so good.
I think this qualifies me for advancement to the next level in the hierarchy of nerddom, although admittedly no duct-tape was involved. Also I guess it’s time to figure out how this optical insurance thing works.
In my experience http://www.zennioptical.com/ wins on price even against retailers + insurance. It’s a dramatic demonstration of how much margin is built into the glasses industry.
On the other hand, I’ve never had a pair from them last anywhere close to seven years. But I like changing glasses style sometimes, so the combination of very cheap and somewhat short-lived works out for me.
Hi Ben,
At the rate of one pair of glasses every seven years, you seem to be self insuring very nicely!!
